Our study programme courses are full-time courses, over 3-4 days per week at the GTA. This course is delivered over 1 year and provides an excellent starting point for those with little or no prior experience of the motor industry, but who wish to progress onto an apprenticeship.

Many of our current apprentices successfully achieved this level 2 qualifications before starting their apprenticeship. This enabled them to get ahead in the very competitive search for an employer.

Learners will study towards achieving a Level 2 Certificate in Vehicle Component Fitting, which includes the following:

-
health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
-
removal and fitting of basic light vehicle mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components and non-permanently fixed vehicle body panels
-
tools, equipment and materials for vehicle maintenance
-
spark ignition engine systems, components and operation
-
inspection and replacement of light vehicle suspension dampers and springs
-
Inspection, adjustment and replacement of light vehicle braking systems and components
-
additional subjects such as exhausts, electrics etc.
Knowledge and skills will be assessed throughout the programme via practical assessments in the GTA workshop, written assessments, and online knowledge tests.
Qualities
Learners will need to show a good mechanical aptitude and have a logical approach to problem solving, they must also have good communication skills.

Work Experience
Towards the end of the study programme, learners will be required to carry out work experience in a reputable garage / workshop giving valuable experience in the industry, which may help with the progression to an apprenticeship.

Maths, English and PSD
